Data Collection and Analysis
Taratec provides its clients with one-step shopping for digital GIS maps and mapping services.
Whether using your data or obtaining data from external sources, Taratec brings experience in advanced spatial data processing and analysis techniques. We can provide maps to your specifications, customized programming, and specialized training to your staff. The following examples illustrate how the creative use of maps allowed clients to find potential customers, identify oppotunities, and target solutions.
Our work in this area has included projects such as:
- Strategic Asset Management:
Taratec used its GIS-based Strategic Asset Optimization (SAO) model to assist a major combined electric and gas utility in analyzing their ability to provide energy for a proposed international sporting event. The client was able to determine a priority for upgrading circuits and found that the sporting event would conflict with existing plans to upgrade service to a newly planned urban center. Alternatives such as new substations, new feeder circuits, and distributed generation were proposed to satisfy future demands for power. - Market Opportunity Targeting:
Taratec's client was interested in comparing the level of demand for a proposed new service in different areas of the country. Taratec obtained data on housing values and converted it into high-value housing units per square mile to identify the zip codes where there was likely to be the highest level of interest in this proposed service. The client was able to use the maps we developed to compare different areas of the country in terms of their attractiveness for further investigation and possible launch of a pilot project. - State Science and Technology Indicators:
Since 2000, Taratec has been commissioned by branches of the United States federal government, such as the Department of Commerce's Office of Technology Policy, to gather and compile the latest available state business, economic and education data and transform it into a publication that allows states to compare their performance in these areas with that of other states. Links to these publications can be found in our Publications section.
