A major energy
company developing an energy storage technology for internal use was
interested in forming strategic partnerships to assist in
commercializing the technology. Taratec first identified other
markets that could utilize the technology and
characterized them in terms of size, growth trends, competition, unmet
needs, economic advantage, and compatibility with the technology's
expected performance. Several of these market opportunities
were then explored in more depth identifying key players, market
channels and value chains, potentially competing technical
developments,
and the window of opportunity based on the planned commercialization
schedule. Several potential partners were identified, and Taratec
developed a strategy to approach each regarding collaboration.
